In the year that Cannes celebrates its 70th anniversary it's fitting that the opening film – Arnaud Desplechin's Les Fantômes d'Ismaël (Ismael's Ghosts) – is a more-French-than-French affair. The Gallic auteur is a firm friend of the festival， with several of his previous films， including Ma Vie Sexuelle， La Sentinelle， and Jimmy P: Psychotherapy of a Plains Indian debuting in competition. Mathieu Amalric heads up an ensemble of French acting royalty that includes Marion Cotillard， Charlotte Gainsbourg and Louis Garrel.
